Singtel, a leading telecommunications company, is enhancing its suite of quantum-safe offerings to help enterprises fortify their defenses against cyber threats and scale more securely in the quantum age. This involves integrating Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) technology from leading cybersecurity solutions providers, Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet, into Singtel’s nationwide Quantum Safe Network (QSN).

Keith Leong, Managing Director of Enterprise at Singtel Singapore, emphasized that quantum computing poses a significant threat to traditional encryption methods and has the potential to disrupt the digital economy. To address this, Singtel is partnering with Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet to provide industry-leading choices for securing businesses against both current and future quantum threats. Steven Scheurmann, Regional Vice President of Palo Alto Networks in ASEAN, and Jess Ng, Country Head of Singapore and Brunei at Fortinet, also highlighted the importance of preparing for the quantum computing era and building a more resilient digital landscape.

Integrating Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) Technology

Singtel’s Quantum-Safe Network (QSN) will integrate PQC technology from leading cybersecurity solutions providers, Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet. This involves using algorithms engineered to resist the computational power of attacks from quantum computers. Palo Alto Networks will protect against quantum threats with a PQC IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) virtual private network (VPN), utilizing the new post-quantum encryption standards established by the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology for secure data transmission and authentication.

Fortinet’s quantum-compatible solutions will integrate PQC and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), a secure method for distributing encryption keys only known between shared parties, to support the development of a secure, scalable, and commercially viable QSN for Singtel. This collaboration will ensure that encryption keys remain secure across diverse applications, including identity, mobility, and authentication services – creating a more resilient defense for enterprises against cyber threats.

Building a Robust Quantum-Safe Network

Singtel’s QSN is part of its domestic network offerings, built and engineered to secure business-critical data and provide enhanced security for the data network and flexibility as a managed service. The company has partnered with industry leaders, including ID Quantique (IDQ), Cisco, Fortinet, and Nokia, to develop a nationwide QSN that fortifies Singapore’s resilience against quantum threats.

IDQ recently released a comprehensive and field-proven quantum-safe key exchange platform, Clarion KX, which manages hybrid cryptography on the network and facilitates large-scale deployments of integrated quantum-safe networks. By hybridizing PQC algorithm-based encryption and quantum physics-based communication security, Clarion KX ensures highly secure quantum key distribution across Singtel’s QSN locations, providing enterprises with a cost-effective solution for long-term quantum-resilience of their core networks.

The partnerships between Singtel, Palo Alto Networks, and Fortinet extend to demonstrations of quantum-safe solutions at the Singtel FutureNow Innovation Centre. This collaboration aims to promote market knowledge and drive adoption among Singtel’s customers.
