BTQ Technologies Inc. Appoints New Quantum Scientist

BTQ Technologies Inc., a global quantum technology company, has added Dr. Peter Rohde, a renowned theoretical quantum computer scientist, to its technical team. Dr. Rohde, an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University and Associate Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems, is known for his deep understanding of optical quantum computing, quantum networking, and the economics of quantum technology.

Since beginning his academic career in 2007, Dr. Rohde has contributed to advancing quantum-related fields, such as quantum computing, quantum optics, and cryptography. He is also the lead author of the book “The Quantum Internet”, published by Cambridge University Press.

Dr. Rohde expressed his excitement to work for BTQ, a company that operates at the intersection of two industries where he’s spent the majority of his career: quantum computing and cryptography. He is looking forward to working on research where outcomes have immediate relevance as we prepare ourselves for the onset of the quantum era.

“While quantum advantage remains a long-term target for most, its implications for information security are relevant today,”

Peter Rohde

Olivier Roussy Newton, CEO of BTQ, stated that Dr. Rohde’s expertise and deep insights into quantum computing and cryptography are invaluable assets for the company. His appointment underscores BTQ’s commitment to the quantum revolution and their focus on quantum research and commercialisation.

Dr. Rohde holds a PhD in theoretical physics (quantum computation and quantum information theory) and a Bachelor of Engineering (computer systems and electrical engineering) from the University of Queensland. He is joining Prof. Gavin Brennen, BTQ’s Head of Quantum Research, at the company’s office located at the Quantum Terminal in Sydney. He will help drive research and expand BTQ’s technical team in Australia.

In addition to his role at BTQ, Dr. Rohde is also a frequent co-host on BTQ’s “The Quantum State,” a podcast exploring the latest research and innovation in quantum computing.

BTQ was founded by a group of post-quantum cryptographers with an interest in addressing the urgent security threat posed by large-scale universal quantum computers. With the support of leading research institutes and universities, BTQ is combining software and hardware to safeguard critical networks using unique post-quantum services and solutions.

“I am excited to work for BTQ, a company that operates at the intersection of two industries where I’ve spent the majority of my career: quantum computing and cryptography. I am excited to work on research where outcomes have immediate relevance as we prepare ourselves for the onset of the quantum era.”

said Peter Rohde.
