Quantonation Ventures Launches €200m Fund for Quantum Tech

Quantonation Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on quantum technologies, has announced the first closing of its second fund, Quantonation II, at €70 million of the €200 million target. The firm has been investing globally in new companies in the quantum tech industry. Quantonation’s first fund raised €91 million and invested in 27 companies worldwide.

The firm believes advancements in hardware and software development are driving the quantum sector towards enterprise-grade use. Quantonation II aims to invest in 25 companies and is working with quantum venture studios worldwide. Key individuals involved include Christophe Jurczak, Managing Partner, and investor Bradley M. Bloom.

Quantonation Ventures Announces First Closing of Quantum Tech Fund

Quantonation Ventures, a venture capital firm with a focus on quantum technologies, has announced the first closing of its second early-stage fund, Quantonation II, at €70 million. The fund, which has a target of €200 million, is dedicated to supporting the growth and development of the emerging Quantum Tech industry. Quantonation Ventures has already begun investing in new companies globally from this second fund.

The firm’s investment strategy is rooted in the belief that innovations in physics, computing, and quantum science present opportunities to build impactful companies. Since 2018, Quantonation has been supporting founders in the deep-tech sector who are working on transforming quantum science and deep physics into tangible devices and applications for sensing, communication, and computing.

Quantonation’s Investment History and Future Plans

Quantonation’s first fund, Quantonation I, raised €91 million, surpassing its original target. The fund made investments in 27 companies worldwide, with two exits. The firm has invested in spin-outs from globally recognized academic ecosystems, such as MIT, Ecole Polytechnique, Institut d’Optique, Oxford University, Waterloo University, and the University of Sherbrooke.

The firm believes that the quantum computing sector is moving towards enterprise-grade use, driven by advancements in hardware and software development. Quantonation’s investment portfolio includes industry leaders such as PASQAL, Nord Quantique, Multiverse, Qubit Pharmaceuticals, WeLinQ, and QphoX.

Quantum Tech’s Global Reach and Potential Impact

Quantonation II will continue the firm’s investment strategy from Quantonation I, investing from the pre-seed/seed stage. The firm is targeting 25 companies in its portfolio and is working with quantum venture studios worldwide to accelerate the creation of new companies.

The firm expects to see more companies working on applications in health, climate change mitigation, security, energy, and high-performance computing. The first closing of Quantonation II has allowed the firm to start investing with four deals to date in the areas of quantum computing, materials, and deep physics.

Investor Confidence in Quantonation’s Approach

Investors in Quantonation I have returned for Quantonation II, demonstrating confidence in the firm’s approach. These include the Fonds National d’Amorçage 2 (the French Seed Fund), managed by Bpifrance on behalf of the French State, and Bradley M. Bloom, co-founder and former Managing Director of Berkshire Partners LLC.

Christophe Jurczak, Managing Partner at Quantonation, expressed optimism about the dynamic in the quantum industry and the firm’s ability to support the best quantum companies in the world. Bradley M. Bloom echoed this sentiment, praising the Quantonation team’s expertise in identifying and accelerating promising innovations in the rapidly emerging sector.
