India and Italy Sign MoU to Strengthen Collaboration in Quantum Technologies, AI, Biotechnology, and 10 Research Initiatives

During a high-level meeting in India, Italy’s Minister of University and Research, Ms. Anna Maria Bernini, met with Dr. Jitendra Singh, India’s Union Minister for Science and Technology, to discuss deepening bilateral collaboration in Quantum Technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Biotechnology. The meeting resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing scientific research cooperation between the two nations.

Under this agreement, both countries will implement the 2025-2027 Executive Programme for Scientific and Technological Cooperation, which includes joint funding for 10 research mobility proposals and 10 collaborative initiatives across various scientific disciplines. Dr. Singh highlighted India’s advancements in AI, High-Performance Computing (HPC), Big Data, and biotechnology, noting key achievements such as the development of a DNA-based COVID-19 vaccine, a national genome data bank, and a thriving startup ecosystem. The two ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to existing collaboration areas, including infectious diseases, quantum technologies, green hydrogen, renewable energy, cultural heritage preservation, and sustainable blue economy, while exploring new opportunities in Industry 4.0 and clean energy.

In a significant move to strengthen bilateral ties, India and Italy have reaffirmed their commitment to fostering scientific collaboration across multiple domains.
