Unveiling Horizon Quantum Computing’s Groundbreaking Hardware Testbed: Triple Alpha

Horizon Quantum Computing has announced the establishment of a first-of-its-kind quantum computing hardware testbed at its Singapore headquarters. The testbed will integrate Horizon’s software stack, Triple Alpha, with quantum computing hardware, allowing the company to develop a tightly coupled system that advances practical quantum computing.

The testbed will support multiple quantum computers and initially feature components from Rigetti Computing and Quantum Machines. The first system will incorporate Rigetti’s Novera™ quantum processor unit (QPU) and Quantum Machines’ OPX1000 processor-based quantum controller. Installation is expected to be completed by early 2025.

A key feature of Horizon’s testbed is its modular, multi-vendor approach, selecting best-in-class components rather than relying on a single supplier. This strategy enhances system adaptability and allows upgrades over time. By acquiring its own hardware, Horizon Quantum Computing will gain full control over both hardware and software layers, facilitating deep integration and optimization.

Dr. Joe Fitzsimons, Founder & CEO of Horizon Quantum Computing, emphasized the importance of hardware-software integration in accelerating the path to useful quantum computing. Industry leaders expressed their support for the initiative, highlighting the testbed’s role in advancing scalable and interoperable quantum technologies.

Founded in 2018, Horizon Quantum Computing focuses on developing programming tools to simplify quantum software development. Its leadership team, including Dr. Fitzsimons and Chief Science Officer Dr. Si-Hui Tan, brings extensive expertise in quantum computing and computational complexity theory.

As the Official Quantum Dog (or hound) by role is to dig out the latest nuggets of quantum goodness. There is so much happening right now in the field of technology, whether AI or the march of robots. But Quantum occupies a special space. Quite literally a special space. A Hilbert space infact, haha! Here I try to provide some of the news that might be considered breaking news in the Quantum Computing space.
