Riverlane Secures Two US Patents for Energy-Efficient Quantum Computing

Quantum computing company Riverlane has been granted two US patents to make quantum computers more energy-efficient. The first patent involves a method for selecting power-optimal compression schemes for transmitting control signals. In contrast, the second covers a quantum control system that uses a double-buffer memory to store operations for controlling qubits. Marco Ghibaudi, VP of Engineering at Riverlane, emphasized the company’s commitment to tackling the errors that quantum computers are prone to. Riverlane’s Quantum Error Correction Stack, ‘Deltaflow’, creates error-free logical qubits from unstable physical ones, enabling large-scale applications.

Riverlane Secures Two US Patents for Quantum Computing Innovations

Riverlane, a quantum computing company, has recently been awarded two United States patents for its advancements in the field. The patents are for “power-aware transmission of quantum control signals” and “quantum computing apparatus and associated methods”. These innovations address a significant hurdle in commercial quantum computing: the development of energy-efficient machines.

The first patent pertains to a method for choosing power-optimal compression schemes for transmitting control signals. This method allows for the high bandwidth rates necessary for scaling quantum computers while also reducing the power demands associated with extreme refrigeration requirements.

The second patent is for a quantum control system that employs a double-buffer memory to store quantum operations for controlling qubits. This double-buffer memory enables part of the memory to be active while the other part is idle and can be updated with the next instruction.

Riverlane’s Commitment to Quantum Error Correction

Marco Ghibaudi, VP of Engineering at Riverlane, expressed the company’s dedication to building a quantum error correction stack. This stack aims to unlock the potential of quantum computing more quickly and ensure that these machines operate with the right balance of speed, accuracy, cost, hardware, and power requirements. This balance is crucial for providing a practical path to error-corrected quantum computing.

Riverlane’s Quantum Error Correction Stack, named ‘Deltaflow’, is designed to create error-free logical qubits from many unstable physical qubits. This allows for the construction of large-scale applications. Deltaflow consists of two layers – a control system ‘Deltaflow.Control’ and a powerful decoder technology ‘Deltaflow.Decode’.

Riverlane’s Growing Patent Portfolio

These two patents are the latest additions to Riverlane’s growing patent portfolio. As of now, Riverlane holds over 50 active patents and applications that are fundamental to quantum error correction. These include its proprietary collision clustering decoder and breakthrough parallel decoding algorithm, innovative quantum control system architectures, and compilation schemes and quantum chemistry algorithms that will demonstrate quantum advantage on fault-tolerant quantum computers.

In addition, Riverlane has filed five more patent applications for its control and decoder systems used in its Quantum Error Correction Stack, Deltaflow.
