Quantware Introduces Contralto-A QPU For Quantum Error Correction And Scalable Systems.

QuantWare, a global leader in quantum hardware scaling technologies, has introduced Contralto-A, a Quantum Processor Unit (QPU) designed for quantum error correction. Announced on February 25th, 2025, in Delft, The Netherlands, Contralto-A features up to 17 transmon qubits with tunable couplers, enabling distance-3 surface code implementations and nearly doubling the size of competing commercial solutions.

Advanced components like Purcell filters enhance high-fidelity operations. QuantWare offers optional expert training and support for customers developing large-scale quantum error correction roadmaps. The QPU is compatible with Quantum Open Architecture, providing hardware-level access and integration flexibility. It also offers a cost-efficient upgrade path to larger VIO-powered QPUs. Contralto-A is available to Early Access partners now and will be released for General Access later in 2025.

Introducing Contralto-A: A QPU Designed for Quantum Error Correction

Contralto-A, developed by QuantWare, marks a significant advancement in quantum computing as a Quantum Processor Unit (QPU) specifically engineered for quantum error correction. This innovation addresses the critical need for robust error correction mechanisms, essential for scaling quantum systems effectively.

With 17 flux-tunable transmon qubits and tunable couplers, Contralto-A stands out by offering almost double the capacity of current commercial solutions. This enhanced size enables the implementation of distance-3 surface codes, a method pivotal for detecting and correcting errors without compromising quantum information integrity. The inclusion of Purcell filters further elevates performance by minimizing noise, ensuring high-fidelity operations crucial for accurate quantum computations.

Recognizing the specialized knowledge required for quantum error correction, Contralto-A is accompanied by optional training and support from QuantWare’s experts. This assistance aids customers in developing a strategic roadmap towards larger-scale systems, facilitating their journey into advanced quantum computing capabilities.

Contralto-A’s compatibility with Quantum Open Architecture provides users with comprehensive hardware-level access across the system stack. This flexibility allows for the integration of preferred or locally sourced components, enabling tailored solutions that meet specific operational needs.

A key advantage of Contralto-A is its cost-efficient upgrade path to larger QPUs powered by QuantWare’s VIO platform. This seamless scalability aligns with the growing demand for robust quantum error correction solutions, as highlighted by recent advancements like Google’s Willow processor. By offering a clear progression pathway, Contralto-A supports customers in achieving more powerful and reliable quantum systems.
