New Mexico Awards $100K Grant to Support Quantum Tech Startups in State-Led Initiative

On April 16, 2025, Mesa Quantum Systems, Inc., a Colorado-based company specializing in quantum technologies, received $100,000 in non-dilutive grant funding from New Mexico’s Economic Development Department through its Quantum Technologies Award Pilot Program. The program, launched in December 2024, aims to support early-stage companies developing quantum technologies and establish them in New Mexico.

Mesa Quantum plans to use the funds to expand operations in the state, develop Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology in collaboration with Sandia National Labs, and advance chip-scale quantum sensors for Position, Navigation, and Timing applications. The grant underscores New Mexico’s strategic focus on fostering a quantum tech industry and enhancing its role as a leader in this field.

New Mexico has established itself as a significant contributor in the national quantum technology sphere through its Quantum Technologies Award Pilot Program and coordinated initiatives. The program, initiated by the New Mexico Economic Development Department in December 2024, delivers merit-based non-dilutive funding to emerging companies specializing in quantum technologies. Participants must maintain operations in New Mexico for a minimum of two years, fostering the development of a regional industry hub.
