Quantum Push: Florida Aims to Lead Emerging Tech Landscape

Matt Cimaglia, founder & managing partner of Quantum Coast Capital, and Tony Jimenez, managing partner of Medina Ventures, announced the formation of Florida Quantum on December 3, 2025, a statewide initiative designed to accelerate quantum innovation across Florida. This effort, launched during eMerge Americas’ Tech Basel AI Summit Miami, aligns with the recently unveiled federal Genesis Mission and aims to organize and attract quantum technology development within the state. Florida Quantum operates under FloridaQuantum.org, connecting private industry and government to strengthen Florida’s position in the rapidly emerging global quantum landscape and build upon the momentum of events like Quantum Beach.

Florida Quantum Initiative Launch & Goals

Florida Quantum launched at the Tech Basel AI Summit in Miami on December 3, 2025, aiming to organize and accelerate quantum innovation across the state. This initiative follows the recent unveiling of the federal Genesis Mission and seeks to align with federal efforts from offices like the NIST and the Department of Energy. Led by Matt Cimaglia and Tony Jimenez, in collaboration with the Florida Alliance for Quantum Technology (FAQT) and eMerge Americas, Florida Quantum will connect private industry and government to strengthen the state’s position in the growing global quantum landscape.

The initiative prioritizes building a sustainable quantum ecosystem in Florida by attracting capital, developing a skilled workforce, and fostering research. Florida Quantum will coordinate statewide efforts, engage accelerator programs, and support workforce development beginning with K-12 exposure to quantum concepts. Recognizing the success of similar alliances in states like Maryland and Illinois, Florida Quantum offers companies a defined pathway to engage with government, research institutions, and capital networks, signaling commitment to a forward-looking ecosystem.

Florida Quantum is initially privately funded but will develop partnerships to enact state legislation attracting leading quantum companies. The initiative seeks to complement the 15-university Florida Alliance for Quantum Technologies (FAQT) and drive growth in areas like national defense, cybersecurity, health innovations, and transportation. 2025 is designated the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, and Florida Quantum aims to position Florida as a leader in aligning with both national and international quantum initiatives.

Alignment with National & Federal Efforts

Florida Quantum launched just one week after the federal government unveiled the “Genesis Mission,” a national initiative designed to accelerate science and innovation in quantum technologies and advanced computing. This new statewide initiative aims to organize and accelerate quantum innovation across Florida, aligning with federal efforts under offices like the White House’s Office of Science & Technology Policy, NIST, and the Department of Energy. The initiative seeks to strengthen Florida’s position in the global quantum landscape, mirroring successful statewide quantum alliances in states like Maryland and Illinois.

The initiative is designed to complement the existing 15-university Florida Alliance for Quantum Technology (FAQT) mission and will operate as a coalition, developing partnerships with universities, venture networks, and federal agencies. Florida Quantum intends to attract leading quantum companies through state legislation and participation signals commitment to a business-ready ecosystem aligned with national priorities. This coordinated approach aims to build a sustainable ecosystem driving research, commercialization, and job creation in quantum technologies.

Recognizing 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, Florida Quantum seeks to position Florida not just with national and international efforts, but to lead them. By uniting public and private partners, the initiative supports technologies vital to national defense, cybersecurity, healthcare, finance, and transportation. It will also prioritize early K-12 exposure to quantum concepts, preparing a skilled workforce for the future, similar to dynamics unfolding around the semiconductor sector in other states.

Florida Quantum represents a bold step by the private sector to expand and strengthen Florida’s quantum ecosystem, working to compliment the recently launched 15-university Florida Alliance for Quantum Technologies (FAQT) mission.

Building Florida’s Quantum Ecosystem

Florida Quantum launched in December 2025 at the Tech Basel AI Summit in Miami, aiming to organize and accelerate quantum innovation across the state. This initiative follows the unveiling of the federal Genesis Mission and aligns with efforts from the White House’s Office of Science & Technology Policy, NIST, and other agencies. Led by Matt Cimaglia and Tony Jimenez, Florida Quantum intends to connect private industry, government, and universities to strengthen Florida’s position in the global quantum landscape, building on the momentum of events like Quantum Beach.

The initiative prioritizes building real business opportunities to drive growth within Florida’s quantum ecosystem. Florida Quantum will coordinate statewide efforts, engage accelerator programs, and facilitate capital investment into quantum companies and research. A key focus is also workforce development, starting with early K–12 exposure to quantum concepts, to prepare for future demand. The privately funded coalition will seek partnerships to attract leading companies and expand Florida’s role in the national quantum economy.

Florida Quantum is modeled after successful statewide quantum alliances in states like Maryland and Illinois, providing companies a clear pathway to engage with government, research institutions, and capital networks. Participation will demonstrate commitment to a business-ready ecosystem aligned with national priorities, offering visibility, research partnerships, and a voice in shaping Florida’s investment and workforce future, especially as 2025 is designated the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.

As countries begin mobilizing around new standards, infrastructure, and workforce initiatives, Florida Quantum is working to ensure Florida is not just aligned with national and international efforts, but positioned to lead them.

Workforce & Investment Development

Florida Quantum launched in December 2025 to organize and accelerate quantum innovation across the state, aligning with a new federal “Genesis Mission” and the White House’s Office of Science & Technology Policy. This initiative aims to connect private industry and government, strengthening Florida’s position in the global quantum landscape. It will coordinate statewide efforts, engage accelerator programs, and build pathways for capital investment into quantum companies and research, mirroring successful models in states like Maryland and Illinois.

A key focus of Florida Quantum is developing a skilled workforce for the quantum era, starting with early K–12 exposure to foundational concepts. The initiative recognizes that successful companies drive faster changes in educational systems and workforce pipelines, a dynamic already seen in the semiconductor sector. By uniting public and private partners, Florida Quantum aims to support technologies crucial for national defense, cybersecurity, health innovations, and other vital sectors.

Initially privately funded, Florida Quantum will operate as a coalition, developing partnerships with universities, venture networks, and federal agencies to attract leading quantum companies and expand the state’s role in the national quantum economy. The launch coincides with the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ2025), and seeks to position Florida as a leader in aligning with both national and international quantum efforts.
