European Survey Reveals Growing Public Excitement for Quantum Technology

Yougov published the first European survey on public attitudes towards quantum science on World Quantum Day (14th April 2025). The survey revealed high awareness in France and Germany, with most adults aware of quantum technology.

Public excitement is highest for healthcare applications, followed closely by energy, cybersecurity, and climate change initiatives. The European Union is significantly investing in this field through the Quantum Flagship programme. This study underscores a growing curiosity and optimism among the public regarding the potential of quantum technologies to address key societal challenges.

World Quantum Day 2025 Survey Publication

The publication of the first European survey on public attitudes towards quantum science and technology coincided with World Quantum Day 2025. Conducted by YouGov, the survey involved 3,093 adults across France and Germany, revealing high levels of awareness in both countries—73% in France and 81% in Germany.

Public excitement for quantum applications was highest in healthcare, with 53% expressing interest, followed by energy (47%), cybersecurity (44%), and climate change (41%). These findings underscore the potential societal impact of quantum technologies across various sectors.

Europe’s commitment to advancing quantum technology is evident through initiatives like the Quantum Flagship programme, which has allocated 1 billion euros over ten years. Additionally, the Chips Act and EuroHPC Joint Undertaking further support the development and industrialization of quantum technologies, reinforcing Europe’s leadership in this field.
