As reported by the Global Times, China has achieved domestic production of a critical component for its self-developed quantum computer, “Origin Wukong.” This breaks foreign dependence and strengthens China’s position in global quantum computing.
The component, a high-density microwave connectivity module, is used for data transmission in extremely low-temperature environments. Previously, Japan monopolized a crucial part of this module. The domestically-made module enhances the quantum chip’s computing power and efficiency. The “Origin Wukong” quantum computer, equipped with this module, has completed over 183,000 quantum computing tasks worldwide. This marks a significant step in China’s independent quantum computing industry.
China’s Advancements in Quantum Computing
China has made significant strides in quantum computing, with the successful domestic production of a crucial component for its self-developed quantum computer, “Origin Wukong”. This achievement breaks the foreign monopoly on this component and further strengthens China’s position in the global quantum computing research and development landscape.
The high-density microwave connectivity module is the key component used for data transmission between quantum chips and external receiving devices in extremely low-temperature environments of -273.12 C or even lower. Previously, Japan monopolized a critical wire of the module, leading to high purchase costs.
The High-Density Microwave Connectivity Module
The domestically produced module can provide a stable transmission channel of microwave signal for over 100 quantum chips in extremely low temperatures. According to Origin Quantum, the developer of “Origin Wukong,” the module enables the quantum chip to exert a more powerful computing capability and efficiency.
The “Origin Wukong” quantum computer, equipped with the domestically made microwave connectivity module, has completed more than 183,000 quantum computing missions and responded to approximately 8.58 times requests from 120 countries worldwide.
Launched in January, the Origin Wukong is the third-generation superconducting quantum computer. It was developed based on China’s first quantum chip production line, first quantum computer operating system, and first quantum computing measurement and control system. It also marked China’s first realization of automated batch testing of quantum chips.
China has established a homegrown and independent industry chain for superconducting quantum computing. It is one of the few countries that can independently produce quantum computers, which are believed to be critical for future economic development. This achievement is a testament to China’s commitment to advancing in the field of quantum computing and breaking away from foreign dependencies.
