Carbon Robotics has unveiled what it claims is the world’s first Large Plant Model (LPM), a groundbreaking AI system trained on an unprecedented dataset of 150 million labeled plants. This new “brain” promises a step-change in how farmers manage crops, enabling laser weeding in any field or crop in minutes. The LPM continuously learns from real-world data gathered by Carbon Robotics’ global fleet of LaserWeeder™ machines, creating a rapidly improving system for plant detection and identification. “When our robots can understand any plant in any field immediately and adapt behavior in real-time, farmers immediately get maximum value from the machines,” said Paul Mikesell, Founder and CEO of Carbon Robotics. This technology arrives at a crucial time, offering farmers a path to reduce reliance on labor and herbicides while boosting yields.
150 Million Plant Dataset Fuels Carbon Robotics’ Large Plant Model
This extensive training allows farmers to begin laser weeding any field or crop within minutes, significantly reducing setup time compared to other AI systems. A key innovation is the “compounding data flywheel effect” wherein the LPM continuously learns from data collected by Carbon Robotics’ LaserWeeder™ fleet, exponentially improving performance across all machines. The LPM isn’t static; it forms the foundation for Carbon AI, a decision-making system powering both LaserWeeders and the Carbon ATK (Autonomous Tractor Kit).
A new feature, Plant Profiles, allows for rapid personalization—farmers can optimize the LPM for their specific fields by adding as few as two or three images via an iPad app, enabling immediate adaptation of LaserWeeder behavior. “This has been a game changer for us and the simple, user-friendly platform allows our operators to maximize LaserWeeder performance in real-time in the field,” said David Faircloth, Farm Manager at Bland Farms.
Real-Time Adaptation via LaserWeeder™ Plant Profiles
Carbon Robotics is deploying a novel approach to agricultural automation through its Plant Profiles feature, leveraging the power of its Large Plant Model (LPM). This system allows farmers to rapidly personalize AI-driven weeding for specific conditions, a marked departure from conventional methods requiring extensive data input and lengthy model creation timelines. Unlike other AI systems, the LPM can adapt in minutes, optimizing LaserWeeder behavior with just two to three images added via an iPad Operator App.
The Large Plant Model provides farmers with the most advanced AI technology to maximize the weeding quality of LaserWeeder in their unique environments.

Carbon AI Integrates LPM for Autonomous Weed Control & Tractors
Carbon Robotics has developed a novel artificial intelligence system, Carbon AI, built upon the foundation of its Large Plant Model (LPM). This LPM represents a significant leap forward in agricultural technology, having been trained on an expansive dataset of 150 million labeled plants—the largest of its kind—to achieve unprecedented accuracy in plant identification and weed control. The LPM isn’t merely a static database; it actively learns through a “compounding data flywheel effect” as Carbon Robotics’ global fleet of LaserWeeders gathers data in real-world conditions, continuously improving its performance across diverse agricultural landscapes.
