These include the potential for tissue damage, inflammation, and scarring (Hochberg et al., 2006). Additionally, there are concerns regarding the long-term stability and reliability of implanted devices, as well as the potential for adverse reactions or complications.
The development of BCIs also raises important questions about user experience and usability. The complexity of BCI systems can lead to cognitive overload and frustration for users (Zander & Jatzev, 2009). Furthermore, there is a need for more intuitive and user-friendly interfaces that can facilitate effective communication and control.
The use of machine learning algorithms in BCIs has shown promise in improving the accuracy and reliability of these systems. However, there are concerns regarding the interpretability and transparency of these algorithms (Samek et al., 2017). As BCIs become increasingly dependent on complex machine learning models, it is essential to develop methods for understanding and interpreting their decision-making processes.
