Australia Invests $13 Million in Quantum Diamond Foundry

The National Reconstruction Fund Corporation (NRFC) has invested $13 million in Quantum Brilliance, a leading diamond quantum technology company, to establish Australia’s first quantum diamond foundry. This investment will enable the mass production of small, lightweight, and room-temperature quantum devices, key components in emerging quantum computing and sensing technologies.

Quantum Brilliance, founded in 2019, has pioneered advanced diamond quantum technologies, designing and fabricating quantum diamonds for various applications. The company’s mission is to enable the mass deployment of quantum technology. NRFC Chair Martijn Wilder AM praised Quantum Brilliance’s ground-breaking work, saying it has the potential to significantly accelerate the quantum technology revolution.

The investment will also sustain the Research Hub for Diamond Quantum Materials, jointly established with La Trobe University and RMIT University in 2022. Mark Luo, CEO and Co-founder of Quantum Brilliance, aims to position Australia as a hub for mass deployable quantum diamond devices, similar to NVIDIA’s dominance in the AI industry.

Investing in Quantum Brilliance: A Step Towards Mass Deployable Quantum Technology

The National Reconstruction Fund Corporation (NRFC) has made a significant investment of $13 million in Quantum Brilliance (QB), a leading diamond quantum technology company. This equity investment will be used to establish Australia’s first diamond quantum foundry, which is expected to play a crucial role in the development of mass deployable quantum computing and sensing technologies.

The NRFC’s investment is part of QB’s Series A funding round, joining other investors with expertise in semiconductors and quantum technology. This partnership demonstrates how the NRFC is supporting startups in the venture capital funding market, providing an initial investment that can help early-stage businesses like QB attract finance from private investors to grow their business.

The establishment of a diamond quantum foundry in Australia will enhance local capability in the emerging quantum technology sector, creating highly skilled employment opportunities domestically and accelerating Australia’s position as a leader in diamond quantum technologies. The foundry will be used to design and fabricate quantum diamond devices, which have a wide range of potential uses across quantum computing, sensing, and networking.

Diamond Quantum Technology: A Game-Changer for Mass Deployment

Diamond quantum technology has several advantages over other quantum technologies, making it an attractive option for large-scale deployment. Quantum diamonds are small, ruggedized, operate entirely at room temperature, are energy-efficient, and can be seamlessly integrated into everyday devices and high-performance computing systems.

The mass deployability of diamond quantum devices is particularly beneficial for applications requiring reliable performance in everyday environments or harsh conditions. This technology has the potential to significantly accelerate the quantum technology revolution, enabling the development of new products and services that can transform industries and societies.

Quantum Brilliance: A Leader in Diamond-Based Quantum Technology

Quantum Brilliance (QB) is a global leader in diamond-based quantum technology, founded in Australia in 2019. The company specializes in the design, fabrication, and manufacturing of small diamond quantum devices, with a mission to enable the mass deployment of quantum technology.

QB has attracted world-leading scientific and commercial talent in Australia and Europe and established more than 25 partnerships with key stakeholders in Australia, Europe, and the United States. These partnerships include collaborations with world-leading universities and research institutes, industry partners, supercomputing centers, and government entities.

The Future of Quantum Technology: A Hub for Mass Deployable Devices

The NRFC’s investment in QB is expected to create many new highly skilled jobs and give Australia an advantage in the global race to develop mass deployable quantum technologies. QB’s CEO and Co-founder Mark Luo envisions a future where Australia leads the world in diamond quantum technology, much like NVIDIA has done in the AI industry.

The establishment of a diamond quantum foundry in Australia is a significant step towards realizing this vision, positioning the country as a hub for mass deployable quantum diamond devices. This development has the potential to transform industries and societies, enabling the creation of new products and services that can have a profound impact on our daily lives.

The Role of Government Investment in Quantum Technology

The NRFC’s investment in QB demonstrates the important role that government investment can play in supporting the development of emerging technologies like quantum computing. By providing an initial investment, the NRFC is helping to de-risk the development process, making it more attractive for private investors to support early-stage businesses like QB.

This approach has the potential to accelerate the development of quantum technology, enabling the creation of new industries and job opportunities that can drive economic growth and improve living standards. As governments around the world increasingly recognize the importance of investing in emerging technologies, we can expect to see more partnerships between government agencies, startups, and private investors that will shape the future of quantum technology.

As the Official Quantum Dog (or hound) by role is to dig out the latest nuggets of quantum goodness. There is so much happening right now in the field of technology, whether AI or the march of robots. But Quantum occupies a special space. Quite literally a special space. A Hilbert space infact, haha! Here I try to provide some of the news that might be considered breaking news in the Quantum Computing space.
